 Curriculum Intent:

Our Science curriculum inspires curiosity, critical thinking, and a deep understanding of the natural world. We provide a coherent learning journey across all key stages, building students' knowledge, skills, and scientific literacy over time. Our curriculum is inclusive, ensuring all students, including disadvantaged and SEND learners, have opportunities to succeed.

Key Stage 3 (KS3)

At KS3, students develop a solid foundation in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. The curriculum is carefully sequenced to build understanding of key concepts and connect different scientific areas. Practical learning is integral, with hands-on experiments that develop students' skills in planning, data collection, and analysis, preparing them for KS4.

We emphasise scientific literacy through reading, writing, and vocabulary development, ensuring students can communicate scientific ideas confidently. Adaptive teaching strategies and additional resources, such as Bedrock, support EAL, SEND, and disadvantaged learners, offering equitable access to learning.

Key Stage 4 (KS4)

At KS4, we deepen students’ scientific knowledge and refine their practical, analytical, and exam skills in line with the AQA Combined and Triple Science courses. Practical experiments, data analysis, and problem-solving are central to developing a strong scientific inquiry mindset.

For Combined Science, students cover key concepts across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, while Triple Science provides greater depth for those preparing for A-Level. Practical work remains a priority, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge in experiments and enhance their skills.

Support and Intervention

We offer targeted interventions, including after-school revision, small group tutoring, and personalised homework tasks to ensure all students, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds or with SEND, receive the support they need. Platforms like Focus E-learning and Tassomai help reinforce key concepts and improve progress.

Overall Aim

Our goal is to provide an inclusive science education that equips all students with the knowledge, skills, and curiosity to understand and impact the world. By fostering scientific literacy and practical skills, we prepare students for further study and future careers, ensuring high expectations and personalised support for all.
